The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 澳门六合彩历史记录 in Jupiter has announced its course offerings for the winter semester, which begins Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.
Taught by 澳门六合彩历史记录 professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.
Winter one-time lectures and courses take place in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at 澳门六合彩历史记录鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:
- On Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020 at 6 p.m., 鈥淎ny Old Time: A Night of Tribute to Jimmie Rodgers,鈥 performed by Taylor Hagood, Ph.D., a professor of American literature at 澳门六合彩历史记录. This one-time performance will provide information and entertainment that will illustrate a combination of lecture and musical interpretation of a selection of Rodgers鈥 works.
- On Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at 6 p.m., 鈥淜inky Boots,鈥 presented by By Experience, a global distributor of alternative content and events to cinema screens. This pre-recorded, one-time presentation of the West End musical tells the true story of Charlie Price, the new owner of his late father鈥檚 Northampton shoe factory.
- On Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020 at noon, 鈥淥cean Entre茅s: Eat Your Sea Vegetables!鈥 presented by Megan Davis, Ph.D., a research professor in the aquaculture and stock enhancement program at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at 澳门六合彩历史记录. This one-time lecture will provide information about the value of sea vegetables and a cooking demonstration will be a part of the presentation.
- On Friday, January 17, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., 鈥淭he Isolating Dilemmas of Life in Film,鈥 taught by Benito Rakower, Ph.D., a graduate of Harvard University. This eight-week course will examine films such as 鈥淲inter鈥檚 Bone,鈥 鈥淚n My Father鈥檚 Den,鈥 and 鈥淩ide the Pink Horse.鈥
- On Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at 9:30 a.m., 鈥淭he World in 2020: Geopolitical Threats and Hopes,鈥 taught by Walid Phares, Ph.D., a former foreign policy advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. This 聽one-time lecture will identify the crises faced by the country and present the most likely arguments to be debated in foreign and national security policies, including Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, ISIS, Afghanistan, Libya, Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Brazil, U.S. borders and homeland security.
- On Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 at noon, 鈥淪tanding on the Precipice of Change: African Americans and the Civil War,鈥 taught by Cassandra Newby-Alexander, Ph.D,聽 the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and a professor of history at Norfolk State University. This one-time lecture examines the role of African Americans as soldiers and the creation of the United States Colored Troops in 1863.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020 at 7 p.m., 鈥淎n Evening of Short Stories with Frank Cerabino,鈥 presented by Frank Cerabino, a columnist for The Palm Beach Post. This one-time lecture will include tales from his collection of fictional short stories.
- On Monday, Feb. 17, 2020 at noon, 鈥淓conomic Episodes in American History: An Economic Analysis of Key Events in America鈥檚 Past,鈥 presented by Mark Schug, Ph.D., a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This four-week course will explore four key events in American economic history with direct connections to today鈥檚 news.
