澳门六合彩历史记录鈥檚 Division of Student Affairs and Division of Academic Affairs has received an anonymous grant for more than $764,000 to fund a new, comprehensive mentoring program called 鈥淭he Mentoring Project at 澳门六合彩历史记录,鈥 designed to assist with improving student success.
鈥淢entoring builds strong connections between students, faculty and staff,鈥 said Edward Pratt, Ph.D., dean of undergraduate studies. 鈥淭he mentoring project complements the tremendous strides 澳门六合彩历史记录 has already made in the area of academic advising, helping to ensure that students stay in college, and continue their progress toward graduation.鈥
澳门六合彩历史记录 faculty and staff, as well as upper division and graduate students, will be trained as mentors to first-year college students, with an emphasis on minority students and those in STEM majors. By 2017, the program also will include the mentoring of incoming transfer students.
鈥湴拿帕喜世芳锹 has not had the capacity to implement this type of structured program in the past,鈥 said Jennifer Bebergal, assistant dean for retention at 澳门六合彩历史记录鈥檚 Center for Learning and Student Success. 鈥淭his funding will give us the ability to reach those who could most benefit from mentoring and help them connect with the best mentoring opportunity to fit their needs.鈥
The grant will fund administration for the project, as well as for training and professional development, mentoring events, mentor recognition, course materials, and stipends for peer mentors.
