�������ϲ���ʷ��¼’s Jupiter Lifelong Learning Society will present a lecture by the Honorable Francis J. “Bing” West on Tuesday, March 21 at 2:15 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Society complex at �������ϲ���ʷ��¼’s John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter.

“Why Does America Win Battles and Lose Wars,” sponsored by Win and Lenore Gerson, will focus on the failed U.S. military objectives in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. What are the basic reasons for these failed objectives? And can the U.S. military turn around its losing record? With the new administration, what military choices and risks will President Trump make?

West is a best-selling military author who served as assistant secretary of defense in U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s administration. A graduate of Georgetown and Princeton universities, he studied in Switzerland and was a Wilson Fellow at Princeton. He served as a Marine platoon commander in Vietnam. As assistant secretary for International Security Affairs, he chaired the U.S. Security Commissions with Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, South Korea and Japan. He also supervised special operations in El Salvador, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Pakistan. West is the author of 10 books on war and military history. His latest book is “One Million Steps: A Marine Platoon at War.” and he also is completing a screenplay about the battles in Fallujah, as well as a book on combat leadership.
